Silverwind
White Dove Release of Madison
The Loft

Location?

Silver Wind Loft is located on the east side of Madison, in Blooming Grove. Our rock doves are immaculate in appearance, healthy, and loved as pets.  They are also known as white homing pigeons, just like the ones used for racing . Many hours, (and miles) have been spent in training in order to keep the birds in top shape, and to get them to know the Dane County area.

**Our doves are trained to migrate home within a 30 mile radius of their loft. This includes the towns of  Cottage Grove, Deerfield, Marshall, McFarland, Sun Prairie, Verona, Middleton, Waunakee. By the  early summer of 2007 they will be trained for  the DeForest, Stoughton, Cambridge, and Oregon areas.

**The doves can be released only during daylight hours as they have poor night vision and cannot navigate home in the dark.

Why use a rock dove?

  • To use a smaller species of dove, such as the turtle dove or ringneck dove, would be a cruel alternative.
  • These birds cannot survive in the wild on their own and have no homing ability.
  • Please do not consider this option for your release.
  • Sterling, our tame white ringneck dove, (the same type of dove a magician would use), is available  to attend any ceremony. She can easily be handled and photographed by anyone!

The flight of your doves will be cancelled in...

  •  thunderstorms/severe impending weather
  •  winds in excess of 25 mph
  •  fog
  •  snow
  •  heavy rain.
  •  If there happens to be a smaller breed of hawk in the immediate area (such as the Cooper or Sharpshin), they will not be able to fly.
